Diagnostic Test & Treatment
Carotid Ultrasound
A carotid ultrasound is a painless scan that uses ultrasound to image the carotid arteries in the neck. It allows for the early detection of blockages caused by a build-up of fat, cholesterol and calcium, so that lifestyle changes and treatment can begin early.
01Why It’s Done
Dr Lee may recommend this for patients with:
- Assessing stroke risk
- Detecting narrowing of the carotid arteries
- As part of a comprehensive cardiovascular screen
02How It Works
- A probe (transducer) is applied to the skin over the neck.
- It emits sound waves that echo back to form images on a monitor.
- The scan takes about 15 minutes.
03Duration, Recovery & What To Expect
The scan is completely painless with no downtime, you can leave immediately afterwards.
